9/5/07 Schloss Freudenberg – unfurling the mind and senses

On 9/5/07 Herta took me to Wiesbaden to Schlossfreudenberg.

Herta chose a side door for the entrance. After we had enjoyed the entire place I told Herta that we had not paid for the entrance and she told me that it was too late. We giggled like girls.

The highlight was having a drink at the 'The Dark Bar' (Der Dunkelbar). Here is how the website describes the bar. Through heavy black floor-to-ceiling curtains, visitors enter complete darkness. Friendly bartenders put nervous customers at ease by asking them to follow the sounds of their voices, left, right, feel for the barstools. Orders are filled and customers reach hands out towards glasses or plates that are gently tapped on the counter. Food and drink is savored while bodies finally begin to relax after repeatedly straining to see. Ears perk up to identify the multitude of sounds, clinking forks, giggling, footsteps, and throats cleared, which would normally be perceived as white noise.
Herta order a surprise juice, which she couldn't identify but I identified as pineapple juice. I ordered a coffee. It was really cool to do everything completely in the dark. Tasting Herta's juice was not as easy when you barely know where the table is. You couldn't see your hand in front of your face! They didn't allow you to turn on your cell phone or have a watch on with light. The experience is meant to be pitch black and it was. It was really cool trying to pay for the drinks as well.

We did a little shopping in Wiesbaden before we went home. I bought some new headphones for my iPod at Karstadt. It was nice to shop and walk the shopping area of Wiesbaden again.
