This last Saturday, I spent the day working in my friends yard. She had invited several friends and family to come work on her beautiful property in anticipation for an anniversary party she will be holding there in early July.
While there my jobs were weeding a flower bed. This is where I learned of the wonders of the Hori Hori knife. This tool is awesome for working in flower beds. I liked the weight of the tool and how strong the steel seemed. I didn't bend it at all even when I thought I would. My gardening shovel would have surely bent under the pressure I had this knife under. I am totally going to have to get one of these.
My next job was to sort river rock out of an area so pumpkins could be planted. This was a good learning experience for me since I learned that there really isn't a good way to do this. A potato fork is critical for this. Now I can attack my river rock issue in my yard.
After that job, I was sent to work my friend's dad who was repairing the deck. This was fun and I learned quite a bit about the process. Although it seemed he was only going to repair the stairs stepping down onto the secondary deck, it ended up that we removed all of the boards on the upper section of deck, slid them down so the proper gap would be allowed for the first step. I feel I learned enough to do a significant amount of work on my deck. My "fear" of saws is my biggest roadblock.
The good news is that my friend and another of her friends offered to teach me how to use the compound miter saw I have as well as the other hand held I would need for my jobs around the house. How great is that??!! I am so excited to learn!
