As I was eating my Chipotle bowl burrito and listening to the music, I realized I didn't know any of the songs being sung. So many people play primarily covers at places like this. I thought to myself (yes it happens!), "this is a bit risky but what do I know? How many songs has she sung so far? Not sure, they seem very smooth and nice. Who is singing? Didn't I just see her a minute ago? Is that little red headed young gal really singing right now?" Her name is Amanda Richards.
From where I was sitting I could not see her so I moved. Then I thought, what kind of music is this? The owners of WineStyles, Jerry and Amy, told that Amanda says she is a bohemian country songstress. That told me nothing because I don't know what that means.
What I do know is that she reminds me of being country like Mary Chapin Carpenter is country (which I have always disagreed with but however they need to classify her so the public at large can listen what do I care?). While looking through the album I bought of Amandas, I verified she writes most of the songs she sings. Guess what, you even want to hear her songs. Country just isn't the right designation. Is she a cross between Nora Jones and Mary Chapin Carpenter? Either way, she is nice to listen to.
The favorite of mine is "As long as I never see you again, I think we can still be friends." She says it will come out on her next album. I checked her myspace page (www.myspace.com/amandarichardsband) and this song is not on there yet. Dang! Nor is it on her website (www.amandarichards.net).
On the album, Live at Mississipi Studios she has the song Cookies & Whisky which seems to be a real crowd pleaser. It is fun but not quite my cup of tea. I like the one above much much more. Her songs are fun and clever.
