What's in a Name?

My friend who wrote a book recently is waiting on finding an agent who can get it published. I have a lot of confidence in this recent book as it has a fresh story and very marketable right now.

It seems that there could be an issue with the name she uses as an author. Her maiden name starts with a Z and her married name starts with a V. I guess it is better to have a name that is "eye level" on the shelf and it seems that both her maiden and married names would be toward the bottom. 

Is it true that the V's and Z's actually end up on the bottom shelves? I think I need to check out a few book stores. Next time you are in a book store, please check for me and let me know what you find out.  Anxious minds want to know!
