I could listen to my friends and people I meet but as with many things I would like to make my own assessment. My situation with wine is much the same. I have found I would have missed out on some wonderful wines if I would have not strayed from the opinions of others. We all have very different tastes. My pallet is not fully developed yet which I find is a great and wonderful thing.
This is not to say that I should not utilize the opinions of others. I prefer to try foods, drinks and things people have found to be their favorites or what they have found exceptional. Essentially, I will not shy away from what others say is not good when the opportunity comes to try something. I have also found trying something a second time which I found unpleasant proves to be pleasant upon another taste.
On the coffee issue. I am blessed to have a friend who understands good coffee. In fact, she is kind of a coffee snob (I mean this as a compliment). Although I like my coffee stronger than she, the quality of the beans and processing method she chooses are a wonderful place to start. In the end, I am pretty certain my research will lead me down the same path she has been but this effort may not be wasted. The journey is what I am looking forward to.
When I was last at her house she made me some coffee which she orders online. I sent her a text to get the name. She said she got the coffee from Coffee Emergency and it was the Guatemalan Palo Alto Azul.
