"Taking the Work Out of Networking"

I got an e-mail about networking so I thought I would pass on the information in case anyone was interested. At this point I don't know anything about who is putting this on or if it is worth while or not but it does look interesting.

Get ready to network!  We'll make it easy and fun by providing helpful tips.  Here are a few to help you prepare for the event:
Networking Tip #1:     FOLLOW UP with the people you meet to unleash the power of networking!  Find out how you can help each other in your initial meeting.  Don't forget to exchange contact information and jot key information from your discussion on the back of the contact's business card. Easy follow up ideas:  send an invitation to linked-in, share informative websites, bring up a subject you discussed, introduce your contact to someone else, or ask to be referred to someone from your contact.
Networking Tip #2:  BE MEMORABLE!  Just meeting someone is not enough.  Some ideas to be memorable:  wear something distinctive, such as a hand-woven scarf or bright tie; really listen to the person you meet;  ask pertinent open-ended questions; tell a short and interesting story related to something key about you;  contribute meaningfully to the conversation.  (based on The Importance of Being Memorable by Scott Allen from http://entrepreneurs.about.com/od/businessnetworking/a/memorable.htm referenced 9/9/2009)

Event sponsored by:  Advisicon, ATSI Group, Comsys, InfoGroup Northwest, Innovation Frameworks, Mainz Brady Group, Portland State University School of Extended Studies, and the PMI Willamette Valley Chapter
