Shooting at the Range

Just before Christmas I went to the range to shoot my HK 9mm for the first time in over a year. I am sad to report that my shooting skills have greatly declined in the last 5 years or so. Really, it was extremely pathetic.

Yesterday I decided to go back and try again since it is somewhat understandable to have ones skills decline as the years go by. I am pleased to report that the 60-70 rounds I shot were a huge improvement and it is clear that more improvement is immanent if I practice more. Sadly, I didn't finish the second box of rounds as my left thumb was no longer cooperating with loading the bullets into my magazine. How rude is that?

After checking with the range staff, it seems it is ok for Thorin to come shooting. He needs to pass the safety test which everyone has to pass at this range and he must be escorted by an adult. I am hoping he will have an evening free from work this week so I can take him shooting for the first time. Over the last few months he has been more and more responsible and I think it would be fun for him. Hopefully it will be a surprise for him. I am not ruining the surprise by writing about it here because he doesn't read my blog anyway!

I will of course check with his mom first and verify that his school obligations are being met before I invite him out. Hopefully he has been keeping up with school as it would really suck to not be able to take him.
